Help with font picks, previews and panel controls.
Email swapfont@omshejul.comHow do I swap a font?
- Open a normal website in Chrome desktop and click the SwapFont toolbar icon.
- Hover over text to see its font name, then click the source text.
- Search Google Fonts and select a replacement, or choose Pick from page to use an existing font. The change applies instantly.
- Choose Pick another font to add more swaps. Open a row to edit it, use its remove icon to undo one pair, or choose Undo all.
How do I switch panels?
Use the panel mode icon in the SwapFont header to float the controls on the page or dock them in Chrome's side panel. Active swaps remain applied. Drag the floating panel by its header, or focus its grip and use the arrow keys.
Why won't a page change?
SwapFont supports ordinary HTML text on Chrome desktop 116 or later. It cannot change text in images, canvas, PDFs, browser internal pages, protected Chrome Web Store pages or inaccessible embedded frames. Click the toolbar icon on the website to grant access. A site that continuously changes its styles can affect the preview.
Why does a font look different?
The picker identifies the primary CSS font family. Individual characters can use fallback fonts. Different font metrics can change layout; missing weights, styles or language characters can trigger a fallback.
Loading and offline use
Font search immediately uses the last valid downloaded catalog or the bundled list. Opening SwapFont checks for a catalog update at omshejul.com if seven days have passed since the last successful refresh, or it has never refreshed. Updates run silently in the background. A failed or interrupted attempt keeps the existing list and allows another attempt on a later opening after a one-hour cooldown. There are no scheduled requests while unused. Google Fonts downloads need a connection; fonts already cached may work offline. If a font download fails, the previous preview is retained. Try another font or reconnect.
Can I keep fonts for a site?
From version 0.5.0, enable Remember for this site below your font pairs and approve Chrome's site permission. Main-page pairs return on future visits to the same exact origin, across all its paths. Changes update automatically. Embedded-frame and single-element swaps stay temporary. A font picked from the page must be available there; Google Fonts load from the cache or network.
Restore the page or delete local data
Press Escape to stop picking. Undo all removes active swaps and saved pairs for that site. Uncheck Remember for this site to forget its pairs while keeping the current preview until reload. Sites that are not remembered return to their original fonts on reload. Revoke site access in Chrome's extension settings. Removing the extension clears its local preferences, saved pairs, catalog, refresh timestamps and cached fonts.
