Privacy policy

Effective 9 October 2026 · SwapFont by Om Shejul

SwapFont previews and replaces website fonts in your browser. It has no account, login or behavioral analytics. Page content and saved font settings stay in your browser. The extension contacts a developer-operated catalog endpoint and Google Fonts as described below.

What stays in your browser

Website content, including selected text snippets, elements and font/style properties, is read locally to identify fonts and apply replacements. Mouse positions and selection clicks are used while picking to position the tooltip and select text. Password inputs are excluded. Current tab and frame URLs and navigation events are read locally to target accessible documents, clear page state on navigation, and restore font pairs on sites you choose to remember.

SwapFont does not upload website text, page URLs, browsing history or picker activity. It does not maintain a browsing-history archive or record behavioral analytics, clicks or keystrokes.

Catalog refresh requests

When you open SwapFont, it starts with the last valid downloaded catalog or its bundled catalog and never waits for a refresh. If there has been no successful refresh, or seven days have passed since the last one, it requests https://omshejul.com/api/swapfont/catalog in the background. After a failed or interrupted attempt, another opening can retry once a one-hour cooldown has passed. Nothing is scheduled while SwapFont is unused. A failed refresh keeps the existing catalog.

This fixed HTTPS GET sends no visited website URL, page text, font search, chosen font, saved settings, installation identifier or analytics payload. It omits cookies and authentication credentials and sends no referrer. The developer's endpoint gets public metadata from Google's official Fonts API, server to server, with the API key kept on the server. The response contains JSON metadata, not executable code.

Catalog hosting and request logs

Vercel hosts the catalog endpoint and processes the connecting IP address and normal HTTP metadata, such as browser information, request time, endpoint path and response status. Vercel may derive approximate location from the IP address. Authorized project administrators can review Vercel request logs for troubleshooting and security. The endpoint adds no application-level request logging or analytics, and no log export is currently configured. Vercel may retain operational and security data under its own practices; see Vercel's runtime log documentation and Vercel's privacy notice. The developer does not use this metadata to track browsing, identify installations or determine your location.

Google Fonts requests

When a Google Font is selected or previewed, the extension requests its stylesheet and font files over HTTPS from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Requests identify the selected font family, weight and style. Any preview test text is a fixed sample, never the text from your website. Requests omit credentials.

Google receives the connecting IP address and normal browser HTTP information. This is necessary to deliver the requested font. See Google Fonts privacy information and Google's privacy policy. SwapFont does not use this information to determine your location. The Browse Google Fonts footer opens fonts.google.com in a separate tab, where Google's own privacy policy applies.

Storage and deletion

The preferred panel mode, downloaded catalog metadata and times of the last successful catalog refresh and last request attempt are saved in local extension storage. Downloaded font data is cached locally, bounded to 160 cache entries; older entries can be evicted as new fonts are cached. Selected frame identifiers are kept for the current browser session and removed on tab closure or navigation. Picked text snippets stay in page memory and clear on reload or navigation. From version 0.5.0, enabling Remember for this site stores its exact origin (scheme, hostname and port) and main-page source/replacement font names locally, so pairs can return on future visits and browser restarts. No picked text or element references are saved. Edits update saved pairs. There is no cloud sync.

Undo all restores active previews and clears saved pairs for that site. Turning remembering off deletes its saved pairs while keeping the current preview until reload. Reloading clears pairs on sites that are not remembered. Removing the extension removes local preferences, saved pairs, the catalog, refresh timestamps and cached fonts through Chrome. Data held by Google or Vercel or voluntarily sent in a support email is separate from local extension storage.

Limited use

SwapFont's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is used to provide font identification, catalog updates, preview and replacement, and to operate and secure the services described above. It is not sold or used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending. Website content, visited URLs, picker activity and saved site settings stay local. Catalog and Google Fonts requests disclose the connection information described above.

Permissions and code

Website access starts when you click the toolbar icon. activeTab and scripting enable the bundled picker and reversible styles; sidePanel provides the docked controls; storage remembers the panel preference, session frame, optional site pairs and catalog metadata and timestamps; webNavigation identifies accessible frames, clears old document state and restores remembered pairs. Required permanent host permissions are limited to the two Google Fonts hosts. Catalog requests use public CORS without an omshejul.com host permission. From version 0.5.0, remembering a site requests optional persistent access to that host. Only exact origins with saved settings restore automatically. Disabling remembering deletes its saved settings; site permission can also be revoked in Chrome's extension settings. All executable JavaScript is bundled with the extension. Remote catalog JSON, stylesheets and fonts are handled as data.

This website and support email

The SwapFont pages at omshejul.com/app/swapfont do not load analytics, tracking scripts or set cookies. Vercel processes ordinary connection information and request logs as described above. Other pages on omshejul.com may have different practices. Support email is optional. The link opens your mail app; no diagnostics are sent automatically. If you send an email, your address, message and any attachments are used to respond. Send only information you choose to share; you can contact us to request deletion of a support conversation.
